Chevron Airflow Indicator
£112.00 (excl. VAT)
A permanently mounted airflow indicator that gives spray booth operators instant, at-a-glance confirmation that extraction is working safely. It continuously monitors static pressure in the extract duct, showing a moving display under normal conditions and switching to a clear flashing warning if a blockage, damaged ductwork, or fan fault reduces airflow. Bright orange, highly visible, and easy to fit to ductwork or any convenient surface, it calibrates in seconds using a magnet — no tools or complex setup required. Powered by 2 AA batteries lasting well over a year, with a low-battery warning built in. Supports HSG258 compliance and helps satisfy LEV inspection requirements between formal tests.
Chevron Airflow Indicator — LEV Airflow Monitor for Spray Booths
Give your booth operators instant, unmistakable confirmation that their extraction is working safely — and give yourself the compliance record to back it up.
A spray booth’s fan, filters and ductwork all have to work together to pull contaminated air away from the operator and keep the finish clean. But airflow doesn’t fail loudly — a clogged filter, a damaged duct joint, a closing damper, or a fan slowly losing capacity can all quietly reduce extraction long before anyone notices a problem. By the time it’s obvious — poor overspray capture, contaminated finishes, or an operator working in air that isn’t being properly extracted — the damage (and the risk) is already done. The Chevron solves that problem with a permanently mounted, always-on indicator that tells operators at a glance whether their booth’s extraction is within safe limits.
Why spray booth operators use the Chevron
The Chevron works by continuously monitoring static pressure in the extract duct, which is a reliable proxy for extraction (transport) velocity. This usually entails positioning the sampling point as close to the point of air intake as possible, with no restrictions to airflow before this point — meaning it picks up genuine downstream faults such as a blockage, a leaking joint, a closed damper, or reduced fan capacity, and flags them with a single, unambiguous alarm condition. Because spray booths are one of the more common variations on a standard LEV layout, the Chevron’s software has been specifically refined for booth use, improving how it copes with booth-style ducting configurations and extending battery life for continuous long-term monitoring.
How it works day-to-day
Mounted in the operator’s line of sight, the Chevron displays a continuously moving graphic that shows extraction is within its calibrated safe range. If duct suction drops significantly — indicating a fault somewhere in the system — the display switches to a flashing warning graphic with an accompanying LED, giving operators a clear, impossible-to-miss signal that something needs attention before they continue spraying.
Built for straightforward fitting and ongoing use
- Simple installation: Mounts to ductwork or any convenient surface using banding, self-tapping screws, or your preferred fixing method. At just 130g including batteries, no heavy-duty fittings are needed
- One unit fits all: A single unit covers a wide static pressure range, so there’s no need to know the exact static pressure inside your duct beforehand — as long as it pulls air at sufficient extraction speed, the Chevron monitors and reacts to the pressure accordingly
- Fast, tool-free calibration: Once fitted and the booth’s LEV system has been balanced, calibration is carried out in seconds using a magnet held against the unit — no need to open the case, and no complex setup procedure
- Tamper-resistant: The case cannot be opened once installed, protecting the calibration from accidental or deliberate interference
- Long battery life: Powered by 2 AA batteries lasting well over a year, with a built-in low-battery warning so you’re never caught out
- Flexible sensing point: Tubing can be extended up to 10 metres from the unit using the supplied adaptor, useful where the ideal mounting position isn’t right next to the duct
- Highly visible: Bright orange housing with a constantly moving display, designed to be read at a glance by an operator wearing PPE across the width of a booth
Supporting your compliance obligations
Airflow indicators are used in LEV systems to ensure that the airflow rate in the system is maintained so employees are protected at all times, and are specifically recommended by the HSE in HSG258 guidance on controlling airborne contaminants at work. Inspection companies check that airflow indicators are fitted to all LEV extraction points as part of the compulsory Thorough Examination and Test (TExT), meaning a properly fitted Chevron isn’t just good practice — it supports the paper trail you need at your next statutory LEV inspection. Fitting a Chevron to your spray booth extraction gives both operators and management ongoing reassurance between formal tests, rather than relying solely on periodic (often 14-monthly) inspections to catch a developing fault.
Trusted in real spray shop environments
The Chevron is already used across UK manufacturing and spray shop environments, to monitor extraction points as part of their day-to-day safety routine, valuing its straightforward setup and lack of reliance on an external electrical supply.
